They found that stress experienced over a long period of time without stopping plays an important role in the development of mental health illnesses such as depression and others.

2. It changes the structure of your brain

Experiments by researchers at the University of California revealed that stress can cause permanent changes in the structure and function of the brain.

These changes can affect your ability to make good decisions and solve problems.

3. Reduce your brain size

Very bad news for the chronically stressed! According to research from Yale University, having too much stress can cause the brain to shrink in areas associated with the control of emotions, metabolism, and memory.

It's counterproductive!  Take note, because different types of stress affect you differently. Recent stressful events, such as the loss of a job or an accident, simply affect emotional awareness.
